Pono - A kōrero on Authenticity
Kingi BiddleRotorua Lakes Council
1.20pm - 2.10pm

Since the time tourists first saw the sway of the piupiu, the grace of the poi, and the raw aggression of the Haka, people from around the globe have swarmed to our country bringing with them their well-earned money.

Māori culture plays a major role in lifting our brand as a country, attracting manuihiri – guests to our nation and ultimately helping to raise our GDP.

Cultural authenticity ensures that the Māori culture moves from being the beacon that calls the world to our shores, to being the whāriki – the woven mat upon which all ideas sit securely on and are woven together as one.

Pono: A kōrero on authenticity focusses on how tikanga Māori – customs, kawa – protocol, and kawenga – values can enhance your hui – events.

We will look at the role of a Pōhiri / Whakatau and how they can ground your events and not hold them back.

Hear stories behind many misconceptions people have about Māori customs. See what happens when iwi and events teams work together for the betterment of the venue and the event.

Mā te tika, mā te pono, me te aroha, ka puta he hua | When we do what is right, what is just, what is compassionate, great things grow from it.
